If your domain is already used on Vercel

PanoCool tours are served by Vercel, and one domain can open only one site there. When your domain is already used by another Vercel project or account, Share › Custom Domain shows one of two messages, and each has its own fix:

  • “Verify you own this domain”, with a TXT record: another Vercel account uses the domain, or the main domain it belongs to, for example because your website is hosted on Vercel. Add the TXT record at your DNS provider, then click Refresh. Nothing has to be removed from that account.
  • “This domain is already linked to another project.”: another project, such as another PanoCool tour or your white-label domain, already has this exact domain. Remove it from that project first, then add it again.

Either way, if a project in your own Vercel account serves the exact address you want for the tour, remove the domain from that project (in Vercel, the project’s Settings › Domains) or use another subdomain, such as tour.yourdomain.com.

The dialog says “Verify you own this domain” and shows a TXT record. The domain, or the main domain it belongs to (yourdomain.com for tour.yourdomain.com), is linked to another Vercel account, usually the one that hosts your website. You don’t need to remove anything from that account:

  1. At your DNS provider, add the TXT record from the dialog: Name _vercel, and the Value exactly as shown (it starts with vc-domain-verify=). Keep the CNAME or A record as well.
  2. Click Refresh in the dialog. Until the record is found, the domain shows Needs verification and Refresh says “Not verified yet”. DNS changes can take a few minutes to several hours.
  3. Once the record is found, the domain shows Propagating (during its first two days) or Active, and Share › View links lists it.
  • The record only proves that you own the domain. It doesn’t move the domain out of the other Vercel account, and your website there keeps working. You can delete the record once the domain is verified.
  • Every domain has its own value. If _vercel already has a TXT record for another domain, add this one as another _vercel record instead of changing that one; the dialog says so when it finds one.

Adding the domain says “This domain is already linked to another project.” That exact domain is already connected to another project, such as another of your PanoCool tours or your white-label domain:

  1. Remove it there first. For a tour, open that tour’s Share › Custom Domain, click the trash icon, then Remove domain. A white-label domain is removed in Account settings › Custom domain.
  2. Wait a few minutes, then add the domain to this tour again.

If you can’t find where the domain is used, email support@pano.cool with the domain name.

White-label domains (Account settings › Custom domain › White-label domain):

  • “This domain is already being used by another project on Vercel.”: remove the domain from that project, such as a tour’s custom domain, then click Connect domain again.
  • “This domain is already in use.”: it’s already a PanoCool account’s white-label domain. If that isn’t your account, email support@pano.cool.
  • The card doesn’t show TXT records. If the domain, or the main domain it belongs to, is used in another Vercel account and the domain doesn’t open your tours after Verify DNS, email support@pano.cool with the domain name.
